Queens of the Stone Age singer Josh Homme appeared in a new interview with NME. While chatting about the Taylor Hawkins tribute show and singing ‘Let’s Dance’ with Dave Grohl, the rocker shared his appreciation for the Foo Fighters singer, even for his dark side. Touching on how well they get along, Homme said:
“Dave has been one of the longest romances I’ve had that’s worked. He’s such a good guy, but I also love his dark side. I love mixing our watercolors together like that, just in conversation. We go to this place, that I won’t name, just to eat breakfast, and we just eat waffles and talk about times as you do.”
‘Dave is Unlike Everyone Else’
In another interview, Homme claimed that having a creative identity was the key factor enabling him to collaborate with musicians of such high profile, and made clear that Grohl was one of those people. According to Homme, Grohl is one of the few people who could be themselves while making music, and his approach to the drums is ‘unlike everyone else’:
“[Dave is] such a great drummer, and he plays drums so unlike everyone else. Because Dave is a songwriter, [and] when he plays drums, it’s easy to talk about drum parts with him. And he comes up with drum parts as well. So, you could come up with some drum parts, he can come up with some, and you get excited, because those drum parts are as musical as a guitar riff, or a bass riff, or a vocal.”
Grohl and Homme’s Long-Time Collaborations
The two are long-time friends and collaborators. Grohl appeared as the official and touring drummer for certain years and played the drums for the band’s 2002 album, ‘Songs for the Deaf.’ The two friends also formed Them Crooked Vultures in 2009 and recorded an album together.
