Last year, Compton rapper The Game took a jab at Eminem on his album Drillmatic on the track ‘Black Slim Shady’. But to many fans, the public jab seemed to come out of nowhere. However, the lyricist (real name Jayceon Taylor) recently unveiled why he decided to aim at Em.
Eminem and The Game have undoubtedly had some heated exchanges over the years, but ‘Black Slim Shady’ took their already precarious and problematic relationship to another level. The over ten minute scathing track opened with a witty skit aimed at Slim Shady. The skit hears an Uber driver who’s driving Taylor state, He [Eminem] used to be like this rap god, but that’s when I was little. I don’t really like his new stuff.”
However, The Game wasn’t speaking to Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) but has since revealed he was using him to get through to Dr. Dre. In an interview with DJ Vlad for Vlad TV, Taylor admitted he made the song because he was “Mad at Dre.”
Elaborating on his mindset, Taylor divulged, “Throwing shots at Eminem and beefing with Eminem, it was just me being upset with Dr. Dre. Dr. Dre can’t out-rap me, so I just went at Em, just because that’s just how I get sometimes.”
He continued, “But it’s always competitive. It ain’t like I’m gonna see Em and be like, ‘What’s up now?!’ It’s Em, you know what I’m saying? And Em took his shots on a record that dropped, and yo, Em is a funny guy.”
The Game has various qualms with Dr Dre and has expressed his anger towards him over the years. Taylor, who was signed to Aftermath Entertainment in the mid-2000s, didn’t achieve the same success as some of his counterparts. Ever since he left Aftermath, he has had issues with 50 Cent and Dr Dre.
In a 2022 interview on the Drink Champs with DJ EFN and Noreaga, following the release of his single ‘Eazy’, Taylor said that Kanye West “did more for me in the last two weeks than [Dr.] Dre did for me my whole career.”
The former G-Unit member also admitted he was “hurt” that he wasn’t asked to perform in Dr Dre’s 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show, which was headlined by Dre and featured Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige. You can listen to Taylor speak about ‘Black Slim Shady’ in the video below.
