Ice Cube (born O’Shea Jackson) is known for his early contributions to gangsta rap’s popularity, which include his brief stint as lead rapper with the controversial group N.W.A., featuring Dr. Dre and Eazy-E. A monetary dispute led to his leaving the trio in 1989 and launching a successful solo career.

The rapper turned to acting in 1991, making his debut as Doughboy in John Singleton’s influential “Boyz N the Hood.” Since then, the 54-year-old has appeared in such movies as the “Friday” and “Barbershop” franchises, the family comedies “Are We There Yet?” and “Are We Done Yet?” and the critically acclaimed black comedy war film “Three Kings” with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg. He also has co-written, directed and produced numerous other films.

Ice Cube was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of N.W.A in 2016 and his oldest son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., portrayed him in the 2015 biopic “Straight Outta Compton.”
