On Wednesday, October 11th, original Slipknot singer Anders Colsefni, joined by Waylon Reavis of Mushroomhead fame, began a tour of Australia and New Zealand with a show in Sydney. Notably, Colsefni performed Slipknot’s first child “Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.” in its entirety, breaking a 27-year-long period of the album staying out of live shows.
Colsefni, who’s known to have a good-natured relationship with his former band and a long-lasting friendship with vocalist Corey Taylor, charged the stage with “Slipknot,” delivering strong percussion blows while demonstrating that no rust has accumulated on his vocal cords. The show only grew in intensity with “Gently” and other tracks, including “Tattered & Torn”. Colsefni ended the set with probably the standout track (and Iowa blueprint) “Killers are Quiet,” after which he approached and greeted the audience.
While a different version of Slipknot, which Colsefni left, is now difficult to imagine, what with the band’s prolific history since then, seeing the singer heartily thank the audience for their presence and attention shows that even if he lost his enthusiasm in the band all those years ago, he never lost his musical heart.
