Brian May On Losing His Protector, ‘It’s One Of The Saddest Days Of My Life’

Queen’s Brian May has lost his driver and protector.

The rocker’s driver of 30 years, Phil Webb, recently passed away due to a heart attack on October 11. May paid tribute to his friend and shared his sadness on Instagram. The guitarist described Webb as ‘the kindest and most decent man I have ever had the pleasure to meet.’

The rocker, in a post with Webb’s pictures, wrote:

“This is one of the saddest days of my life. Last night we lost Phil Webb to a heart attack. Phil, my dedicated driver for over 30 years was my family’s dearest friend and protector and the kindest and most decent man I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

We are all devastated and join with Phil’s wife and son in grieving for the last man on Earth to deserve this much too early passing away. Bless you dear Phil – we all love you. We’re proud of the life you led, and forever grateful for everything you gave us – more than any words could ever describe.”

The rocker’s post was filled with many emotional comments. Other rockers, such as Rufus Taylor of The Darkness and Mike Dirnt of Green Day, also commented and shared their condolences.

The news of Webb’s passing came a month after May’s tribute to Freddie Mercury on what would have been his 77th birthday.
