Corey Taylor recently took to social media to address the swirling rumors surrounding the new Slipknot drummer, sparking a wave of criticism from fans.
In the weeks following Jay Weinberg’s exit from Slipknot, drummer Jeramie Kling has been active on social media, dropping hints that he might be joining the band. His recent post, showing a new drum kit and using a hashtag linked to Slipknot’s ‘Heretic Anthem’ (‘I’m 666’), has further fueled these rumors.
So, to clear up the air, Taylor wrote on X:
“To everyone wondering about our new drummer… It’s not him. Stop letting him troll you. He’s not even on the list. He’s not 666.”
Backlash Against Slipknot’s Decision
This statement, intended to dismiss the rumors, led to mixed reactions. Some fans went on with their guesses about the new member, while others criticized Taylor and Slipknot for their approach to Weinberg’s departure. While an X user commented:
“I’m more interested in why you fired Weinberg and how you fired him. Spineless and no integrity.”
Another tweet read:
“There’s this Jay Weinberg guy who was recently kicked out by some band; I’d say give him a shot.”
Referring to Weinberg’s explanations about his dismissal, a fan wrote:
“You had him and then fired him over the phone. You guys should all just trade in your masks for clown masks at this point.”
Weinberg On Being Fired Over The Phone
After Slipknot announced parting ways with Weinberg through an official statement on their website, the drummer remained silent on social media for a while. Later, he returned to Instagram to share his feelings about the news by writing:
“I sometimes wonder what it would be like to pay a visit to my wide-eyed, 10-year-old self — falling head over heels in love with a new and exciting sound and culture — and tell him all about the last 10 years. Even on the hardest days, I’d like to think he’d be stoked about the adventure that was in store for him.”
About how he was fired, the drummer went on:
“I was heartbroken and blindsided to receive the phone call that I did on the morning of November 5th, the news of which most of you learned shortly after. However, I’ve been overwhelmed by — and truly grateful for — the outpouring of love and support I’ve received from this incredible community I consider to be my creative and artistic home.”
The Band’s Statement
Slipknot’s explanations for his departure from the band differed from Weinberg’s account, though. The group cited artistic differences as the reason for the decision. They first thanked the drummer as follows:
“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style, or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums, and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it.”
About the reason, the statement read:
“But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”
Guesses On The New Drummer
As of now, there’s no official word on who Slipknot’s new drummer might be. But the music community is speculating names such as El Estepario Siberiano, Domino Santantonio, Anastasia Sereda, and Kerim ‘Krimh’ Lechner.
