Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl joined The Breeders on stage as a special guest for a Pixies cover on October 13th.
The former Nirvana drummer joined Kim Deal, formerly of Pixies, at their concert at Austin City Limits last week to perform a cover of the proto-grunge band’s classic hit, ‘Gigantic’.
“We’ve been touring with him,” Deal announced as Grohl took to the stage. “We’ve had a good show so far, Dave, OK.”
Grohl previously performed the Surfer Rosa cut with The Breeders at Vets Aid at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, in 2022. The stars also aligned for a ‘Gigantic’ cover when The Breeders supported Foo Fighters on their headline tour in August.
Deal and Black Francis wrote the song in the mid-1980s and recorded it for Pixies’ debut album of 1988, Surfer Rosa. Alongside Francis, Deal was a co-lead vocalist and songwriter and also performed bass.
The bassist formed The Breeder in 1989, the year of Pixies’ masterpiece album, Doolittle, but maintained an on-off position in Pixies until 2013.
Elsewhere, The Breeders reissued their most popular album, 1993’s Last Splash, in September to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Meanwhile, Grohl recently reflected on his time with Nirvana and discussed their living conditions before Nevermind became a success.
Grohl recalled on the Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend podcast: “Before we made the record Nevermind, we were pretty much living in squalor. I was living with Kurt in this tiny little apartment and there were just corn dog sticks and cigarettes all over the place. I would have done anything to have my own apartment and to be able to do that through making music.”
