Deadpool & Wolverine is now the most anticipated summer movie of the year, and it’s easy to see why. The film has built incredible hype, being the first Deadpool movie to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only that, but it will also feature Wolverine in the fold, making fans more excited. So, now that the MCU and the X-Men are about to join forces, with references to the big two franchises, director Shawn Levy assures viewers don’t have to do their research to understand the threequel.
Deadpool & Wolverine will feature the Time Variance Authority to help Wade Wilson and Logan make their way to the MCU. It will also see the return of the classic X-Men movie villains. Though this may come new to viewers who haven’t followed the past X-Men movies and Marvel films and series, Levy told The Associated Press that it’s not required to start binge-watching to enjoy the film.
“I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult,” he said. “But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies.”
The producer revealed that he made this project with the “rabid fan base” in mind, knowing they already had “peak fluency” in the mythology and lore of the film’s characters and world. However, he also knew that not everyone had the complete knowledge of these two franchises.
“This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research,” he continued.
But whatever the case is, Levy promised that Deadpool & Wolverine is made to delight the audience, teasing they would be in “for a very fun ride.” That said, he’s confident that they will show up to watch the movie and everyone can easily understand its story.
Hollywood Strikes Help “Improved” Deadpool & Wolverine
Meanwhile, in the same interview, Levy also discussed the impact of the Hollywood strikes on Deadpool & Wolverine. The strikes happened during the movie’s production, leaving him with no choice but to edit and review the footage while Hollywood was put to a halt. While doing so, he learned what worked for the film and what it needed to be.
So, when the filming resumed, he didn’t rush to finish the movie. Thanks to the strikes, he enjoyed the time he had to do what they needed to do with the deeper knowledge he had.
“It really focused our work and, I think, improved our work in the second half,” Levy said. “That’s not a luxury we ever get in live-action filmmaking.”
