Marvel Studios and Disney are gearing up for the nearing release of the highly anticipated movie of the year, Deadpool & Wolverine. The movie has built incredible hype, seeing Logan and Wade Wilson together in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie and being the only film Marvel Studios will release this year. So, as a treat, Disney+ launched a new sweepstakes that will give its lucky subscribers in the US a chance to attend the film’s world premiere in New York City in mid-late July 2024.
Starting Friday, June 7, Disney+’s US subscribers can join the sweepstakes to win an exclusive red-carpet experience to see Deadpool & Wolverine. Two grand prize winners will travel to New York City and arrive in style to the movie’s world premiere. They can also walk the red carpet and watch the film alongside the lead stars, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds.
In addition, they will receive two-night hotel accommodations, $500 cash, round-trip coach airfare, and ground transportation upon arrival and departure. Their transportation to and from the hotel and world premiere will also be covered.
However, the sweepstakes is only for the legal residents of the 50 US and DC who are 18 and above. Winners should also be free to travel mid-late July, and entries are limited to one per person. The email addresses the participants will use should also be associated with their Disney+ subscriptions. The sweepstakes runs from June 7 to 30. For more info, visit Disney+’s website.
Deadpool & Wolverine Officially Receives R-Rating
Deadpool & Wolverine officially receives an R-rating, though this isn’t a surprise, given that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has already hinted that it will be R-rated. Its F-bomb-filled trailers, “intentionally crude” popcorn bucket, and Feige calling it “f*cking awesome” at CinemaCon in April are enough clues that it will be rated R. In a bulletin MPA’s Classification and Rating Administration issued on Wednesday, June 5, the MCU movie was rated R for its “strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore and sexual references.”
However, though Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are both R-rated, the threequel is the first Deadpool film to receive the rating for “gore.” Hence, fans may see more blood in it than in its predecessors. It’s also the first movie set in the MCU that is R-rated.
In an interview with Fandango, director Shawn Levy revealed that the film earned its R-rating to stay true to Deadpool’s tone. He also had Feige and Marvel Studios to thank for. The Marvel head and the rest of the company’s team gave them the creative freedom to extend their limits.
“We were clear from the get-go,” he said. “We said, ‘Well, the three of us [Levy, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman] are going to do this and we’ve got to be truthful to the tone of a Deadpool movie.’ That means we’re not softening the edges. We’re going to be audacious and funny and edgy, the way I know I, as a fan, want from Logan and from Wade Wilson.”
Disney is evidently going to great lengths to promote Deadpool & Wolverine. Who knows, this move may even earn Disney+ more subscribers.
