Eminem is stepping up again in his unofficial role as Detroit’s goodwill ambassador to the rest of the nation.
In a new promotional spot that posted today on ESPN’s account on X (the site formerly known as Twitter), Slim Shady introduces himself and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and says they’re both “so fired up this year for the NFL draft.”
“Live from the D!” shouts Goodell, raising his right fist exuberantly.
Looking skeptically at the buttoned-down commish (who’s wearing a blue blazer and a dress shirt), Eminem (who’s clad in a Detroit Lions hoodie and a 2024 Lions playoff hat) tells him, “You could just say Detroit.”
“That’s what I said,” replies a puzzled Goodell, to which Em counters, “No, you said the D.”
As Goodell continues to enthusiastically name-check the city hosting this year’s event, Eminem asks, “Am I being punked?”
Stay tuned for other spots featuring the rap superstar and the top league official that are expected to air on ESPN and the NFL Network and be posted on social media in the days before Thursday’s kickoff of the big event.
The NFL draft will be held April 25-27 in Detroit, with events and activities reaching from Campus Martius to Hart Plaza downtown and at sites in Beacon Park, Capitol Park, Grand Circus Park, Harmonie Park and along Woodward Avenue.
