After the release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Australian megastar Chris Hemsworth continues to stay busy with a handful of new movie and TV credits over the next few years.
Over the last decade and change, Hemsworth rose through the ranks of Hollywood through his work in a number of major franchises that stand out in the pop culture landscape.
Most recently, Hemsworth took on the responsibility of playing the villainous Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga alongside Anya Taylor-Joy, although that is far from his last confirmed project in the next few years
Chris Hemsworth’s Upcoming Movies & TV Shows
With that being said, below are seven new movies and TV shows that will feature Chris Hemsworth in 2024 and later.
Transformers One
Joining three of his Marvel Studios co-stars in Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, and Laurence Fishburne, Hemsworth will go into the animated genre by taking on the iconic voice of Autobot leader Optimus Prime in Transformers One.
This movie will serve as a prequel to Michael Bay’s first Transformers movie from 2007, with Hemsworth taking over for the legendary Peter Cullen as a younger version of Optimus that leads an early battle on Cybertron.
Paramount released the first full trailer for Transformers One in April, showing off Hemsworth’s voiceover efforts in this new role ahead of the film’s September 20 debut.
Extraction 3
Teaming up with Joe and Anthony Russo, Chris Hemsworth took on the role of Tyler Rake in 2020’s Extraction and 2023’s Extraction 2, with Extraction 3 getting a confirmation for development one day after its predecessor debuted on Netflix.
While no story details were announced for this new outing, Hemsworth is confirmed to return as the black market mercenary and former Australian Special Agent for a third time.
Hulk Hogan Biopic
First reported in 2019 for an eventual Netflix release, it was announced that Chris Hemsworth would team up with Joker director Todd Phillips to develop a biopic centered on iconic WWF and WWE wrestler Hulk Hogan.
Although updates on development have been scarce, Hemsworth will portray Hulk Hogan in this film, bulking up even beyond his MCU levels and diving into one of wrestling’s most legendary figures from the 1980s.
What If…? Season 3 (Rumored)
While he hasn’t been confirmed for inclusion yet, Hemsworth is rumored to be returning to the voiceover booth in the MCU for the third time as Thor, the God of Thunder, in Season 3 of What If…? on Disney+.
He played an important supporting role in Season 1 as a member of the Guardians of the Multiverse before starring in three new episodes from Season 2 at the end of 2023.
There are no confirmed stories or plot lines for any characters in What If…? Season 3, but it would be shocking if Hemsworth did not reprise his MCU role in this animated series.
Avengers 5
Marvel Studios’ Avengers 5 is going through major fundamental changes due to Jonathan Majors’ firing from the MCU (see more about the film’s confirmed title change). However, that should not stop Chris Hemsworth from suiting up once more as the God of Thunder, as he did for the franchise’s first four team-up films.
Prior to Majors’ firing, Hemsworth responded to a comment about a fight between Kang the Conqueror and Thor, teasing how ready he is to suit back up for his latest MCU ensemble outing. Although the story is being reworked, with no details known about what will happen, the MCU’s current longest-standing actor should have a place in this film no matter what happens.
Avengers: Secret Wars
No matter what happens in Avengers 5, Avengers: Secret Wars is being prepped as the biggest crossover event in MCU history, taking inspiration from the Secret Wars story from Marvel Comics.
Even with no story details known publicly yet, it would be a shock not to see Hemsworth come back as Thor alongside not only the MCU’s finest but so many characters from past non-MCU movies as well.
Thor 5
Currently, there are no official or rumored plans in place for a fifth Thor movie, although 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder ended with the promise that “Thor will return” after its credits rolled.
Additionally, Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi seemingly leaked that Hemsworth was already in talks for the film, meaning it may already be in the works behind the scenes.
This sequel would likely follow up on Love and Thunder‘s post-credits tease, which introduced Ted Lasso‘s Brett Goldstein as the MCU’s Hercules ahead of a potential throwdown with Hemsworth’s veteran hero.
While he would have conditions, Hemsworth has also expressed a willingness to stick with his role, hopefully setting up the fifth Thor solo outing since 2010 as fans wait for more news.
