Ice Cube gave a clue as to why Lamar Odom was deactivated from the BIG3 basketball league when he talked to TMZ. The BIG3 founder said he simply wanted active players available to compete on the court.
“As a league, we want players that are actually playing,” he explained when asked about Odom. “So, if you ain’t playing, or you can’t play, or you have any health issues, [you’re deactivated].”
Cube did convey sympathy and compassion for the embattled ex-Laker though. When asked if he was concerned about Odom, the N.W.A member stated, “Always, I love the guy.”
The BIG3 marked Odom’s return to basketball following his troubled past. He played in one game as part of the Enemies team with Gilbert Arenas and Royce White.
The league was created to give former professional basketball players another chance to compete against each other on a televised stage. Along with Odom, other players recently deactivated by the BIG3 include Baron Davis, Jermaine O’Neal and Bonzi Wells.
