J. COLE & KODAK BLACK COOK UP ‘INSTANT CLASSIC’ IN THE STUDIO

J. Cole and Kodak Black have been spotted in the studio together and apparently have an “instant classic” on the way.

Though the two artists have never collaborated together before, a photo of them working together in the studio was posted on Instagram on Thursday (January 25) by Kodak’s Sniper Gang Apparel.

“Yak x Cole [two goat emojis] #OTW Just know when Yak touch down…INSTANT CLASSIC!” read the post’s caption.

It is not known when the image is from as Kodak Black is currently incarcerated after he was charged with oxycodone possession, which he has pleaded not guilty to.

The Florida rapper has also been open about his love for Cole and claimed he gives the best advice.

Speaking at the American Music Awards in 2022, Kodak said: “J. Cole, I rock with him tough. He gives me great advice and he wanna see me win. Some people will try to hold information back, he give it to me raw and stuff like that.”

Cole had previously rapped about offering advice to Kodak and other young rappers on his track “Middle Child.”

“I’m dead in the middle of two generations/ I’m little bro and big bro all at once/ Just left the lab with young 21 Savage/ I’m ’bout to go and meet Jigga for lunch/ Had a long talk with the young n-gga Kodak/ Reminded me of young n-ggas from ‘Ville/ Straight out the projects, no fakin’, just honest/ I wish that he had more guidance, for real,” he spit on the song.

Linking up with Kodak Black also solidifies J. Cole’s more collaborative approach that he has embraced in recent years after releasing numerous projects without guest features.

Since 2019, Cole has released singles with 21 Savage, Benny The Butcher, Lil Yachty and Lil Baby, as well as hopping on features with Drake, YG and Lil Durk.

In a 2021 op-ed for The Players’ Tribune, Cole previously explained why he largely avoided features having released three consecutive albums without any guests.

“A combination of a competitive ego mixed with a deep fear of rejection had kept me from collaborating with peers that I respected all of these years and prevented me from building real friendships with them,” he admitted. “I had spent my career closed off. I didn’t want that to be the case forever

2023 saw Cole score his first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with his Drake collaboration “First Person Shooter.” The song also saw Drake equal Michael Jackson’s record of 13 number one singles.
