Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards recently appeared on Telegraph to share his opinion on different music genres. While the rocker was talking about his career, the state of music, and his band’s comeback album ‘Hackney Diamonds,’ he revealed that he had never been impressed by rock and rap music.
He said the following about rap music, claiming that he can have one of its aspects without leaving the house:
“I don’t really like to hear people yelling at me and telling me it’s music, A.K.A. rap. I can get enough of that without leaving my house.”
The guitarist then expressed his disappointment in pop music for being ‘cheap and easy’:
“I don’t want to start complaining about pop music. It’s always been rubbish. I mean, that’s the point of it. They make it as cheap and as easy as possible, and therefore, it always sounds the same; there’s very little feel in it.”
He then shared what real music means for him:
“I like to hear music by people playing instruments. That is, I don’t like to hear plastic synthesized Muzak, as it used to be known, what you hear in elevators, which is now the par for the course.”
As it comes to what the rocker prefers to listen to, he seems to be a fan of blues, jazz, and classical music.
Rolling Stones is set to release their first album in 18 years, entitled ‘Hackney Diamonds,’ which also marks their first without the late drummer Charlie Watts. The album will be out on October 20.
Though the album isn’t released yet, the band revealed that they have already started working on another new album.
