Mick Mars Explains If He Attacked Mötley Crüe In His New Song

Mick Mars released his first solo single since leaving Mötley Crüe on October 31. This release titled ‘Loyal To The Lie’ came after a period of silence from the guitarist following a legal dispute with his former bandmates. Still, according to his words in a recent interview with SiriusXM’s Eddie Trunk, the fight wasn’t the topic of his new song.

Mentioning his chronic illness, ankylosing spondylitis, Mars explained:

“Mötley will always be a part of me, my legacy, stuff that I’ve done, and I loved what we’ve done, but there’s a time to call it. This crap that I have got a little rough on me traveling. So, it is what it is. But no. That song is full-blown just against the lie, whether it be cultist or, I’m not gonna say government, but I say, governor: government and that kind of stuff.”

About the actual theme, he went on:

“I don’t know where to exactly put the finger on, but it was for that reason of people being lied to, people being manipulated, people doing this, and – in the end, like I said – they die. They’re dead. The cult died… You know, where did Jim Jones go? He finally got killed. He didn’t drink the Kool-Aid.”

The New Album’s Sound

The new single came out as a part of Mars’ upcoming album, ‘The Other Side Of Mars,’ set for release on February 23, 2024. According to the press statements, the song and the record took a turn from Mötley Crüe’s usual sound through the years the guitarist worked on it. In fact, the former band member’s words about his solo work read:

“There’s a lot of ideas that I have that, I don’t want to call them ‘left,’ but they are, you know what I mean? My feeling has always been I might gain some fans, I might lose some fans. But what they’re hearing, it’s all me.”

The album’s tracklist, released a few months ago, featured songs like ‘Killing Breed,’ ‘Broken On The Inside,’ ‘Alone,’ ‘Lonely In Your Grave,’ ‘Decay,’ ‘Fear,’ ‘Memories,’ and ‘Erased.’ Mars reportedly collaborated with several artists like Jacob Bunton, Chris Collier, Paul Taylor, Ray Luzier, and Brion Gamboa for this project.

Vocals And Comments From John Corabi

‘The Other Side Of Mars’ also included vocals from John Corabi on songs like ‘Shake The Cage’ and ‘Gimme Blood,’ when recording sessions started back in 2016. But these pieces didn’t appear in the final version while Corabi revealed that he didn’t know what the guitarist planned to do with them in a chat with Chris Gaydos.

As he commented on the record in the same July interview, though, the singer mentioned the Mötley Crüe dispute’s effect on the record’s release by saying:

“Hopefully, he gets it out, you know. The unfortunate part of it is the record label that he is signed to is owned by the manager of Mötley, Allen Kovac. So, I don’t know if all the s**t going on with Mötley is affecting the release of the record. So, I don’t know. We’ll see.”

Despite the delays, ‘The Other Side Of Mars’ is now available for pre-order. You can check out its first single below.
