Nikki Sixx, who once said he would turn down a possible Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, recently commented on the matter again through an X post. Saying the Rock Hall was exaggerated, he shared:
“I think people get too worked up about the RRHF. If you get in, that’s cool, and if not, it’s not a big deal. It’s not some elite club that defines you. It’s an award. None of us hopefully make music just for awards. I do like the idea of jamming with other musicians at the ceremony.”
Is Mötley Crüe Banned From The Rock Hall?
Mötley Crüe has been eligible for the Rock Hall since 2006 but has not yet been included. Sixx stated in 2019 that the band had been basically banned from the event due to their past behavior.
Sharing Tommy Lee’s thoughts about a possible induction, the bassist told Kerrang! that the drummer was open to performing classics for a Rock Hall ceremony:
“I was, like, ‘Really?’ And he said, ‘Why not?’ But we don’t have any plans because we were told by the Hall Of Fame that we would never get in because of how we’ve acted, so that’s kind of it.”
Sixx Doesn’t Like The Idea Of Being An Inductee
Some band members still hoped for induction, though, with Vince Neil suggesting in a chat that it would come sooner or later. In contrast, Sixx shared on Facebook in 2015 his lack of interest in joining the Rock Hall. He wrote:
“The only award I look forward to getting, the one I will probably decline and that’s the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
Commenting on the event, the bassist went on:
“It’s a fixed old boy network that has lost touch with art, songwriting craft, lyrics, and influential music and usually has other agendas at hand. Young bands tell me it’s a joke, and these bands are the future.”
2023 marked the 18th year of Mötley Crüe’s eligibility for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While still not having their names, this year’s inductee list included Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, and the Spinners.
