Rob Halford’s Single Advice To Survive In The Rock Scene, Jay Buchanan Recalls

During a conversation with The SDR Show, Jay Buchanan, the lead singer of Rival Sons, shared some advice from Rob Halford, the mastermind behind Judas Priest.

In the interview, several topics were discussed and when Buchanan was asked about the advice Halford gave him about staying together, he explained:

“He came backstage, and that was his one piece of advice. He loved what the band was doing, and he says, ‘Yeah, I remember. I remember doing exactly what you guys are doing. Everybody’s crammed into a van, you’re f*cking tired, and you’re dirty, and you’re just waiting to play.’ And he said, ‘The only thing you really need to do is just stay together. If you stay together, you’ll make it.’”

Halford isn’t the only one to give pieces of advice to people; he also has received many. He said, in an earlier interview, the best advice he received was from Gene Simmons of Kiss. He explained:

“I was just talking to Gene about the music business, and he goes, ‘Let me just say this: It doesn’t matter what they say about you, as long as they’ve got your picture and they spell your name right.

“Especially in music, there are so many opinions, and there are so many different points of view, it’s out of your control, and you really have to figure things out, because the way that some of the negativity can intrude into your own personal life – ‘You suck’; ‘I hope you die of cancer’; all this horrible stuff – you’ve gotta learn how to deal with that.[…]”
