Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant recently delivered a rendition of the classic ‘Stairway to Heaven’ at the Cancer Awareness Trust Concert held at Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds. This performance received various positive reactions from the fans, as it has been a long time since Plant sang the song.
Organized by Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor, the charity concert aimed to raise both funds and awareness for prostate cancer — a cause close to Taylor’s heart. Taylor, diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer in 2018, has been bringing forward the importance of early detection concerning the disease.
During the show, fans were eager to hear Robert Plant’s performance. Comments from fans under a Facebook video of the show reflected their delight. A fan praised Plant’s natural vocal talents, saying:
“Robert Plant is a man who never ever has to give up his day job. No lip-syncing or auto tuner here.”
Another remarked:
“That’s incredible! Robert Plant sings ‘Stairway’ a long time after the last time in London in 2007!”
Some liked ‘Black Dog’ better, explaining the reasons Plant’s struggle might have stemmed from:
“Robert was amazing! ‘Black Dog’ was fab, though he struggled a bit with ‘Stairway.’ I don’t think he’s sung that in a long time!”
One of the fans called Plant’s performance ‘sensational,’ noting:
“It has been many years that I have not heard you sing this. And you are sensational. Love it. Keep up the good work.”
Heart’s rendition of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012 moved many, including Plant himself. Back then, he commented on the numerous covers of the song over the years, mentioning that he had grown weary of it due to numerous renditions. But Heart’s version had managed to rekindle his appreciation.
Taylor’s Cancer Awareness Trust Concert united a line-up of artists. Besides Plant, musicians like Andrew Ridgeley of Wham!, David Palmer of ABC, Ella Henderson, and Phil X were in attendance. The evening also featured a stand-up set by comedian Katherine Ryan and an auction with artworks from artists such as Banksy and Picasso.
All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Cancer Awareness Trust, supporting their goal to develop a platform to provide information to those affected by cancer.
Meanwhile, Duran Duran is getting ready to release their upcoming 16th studio album, ‘Danse Macabre,‘ on October 27.
