Former head of Death Row Records and infamous gangster Suge Knight has made a series of disparaging claims in a new episode of Collect Call With Suge Knight. The podcast, which was launched in collaboration with Breakbeat Media last year, hears the now-incarcerated figure comment on hip-hop and air previously unheard stories.
In the most recent episode of Collect Call With Suge Knight, the felon insisted that Detroit lyricist Eminem is responsible for the failure of 2Pac’s posthumous projects as he is the person who oversaw their production.
Knight explained how there had never been a poorly received 2Pac album until Eminem gained control. Elaborating on this, Knight unveiled, “A lot of people been wanting to do songs with ‘Pac, and some people even did some shit with ‘Pac. There was only one 2Pac project that ever flopped before, and that’s the one Eminem did on all the releases. All the rest of them were successful.”
The album Knight referenced is Loyal To The Game, a compilation of unreleased recordings by the All Eyez On Me rapper produced entirely by Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers). Although the project debuted at number one, Knight insisted that it was a flop in comparison to 2Pac’s Death Row material.
Suge Knight has never respected Eminem and has long despised Mathers’ partnership with Dr. Dre and Aftermath. According to former G-Unit member Tony Yayo, the Detroit artist nearly ended up in a brawl with Knight.
In an appearance on the Drink Champs podcast, Yayo unveiled that while Eminem was at 50 Cent’s ‘In Da Club’ video shoot, Knight turned up with an entourage of Mexican gang members ready to fight Aftermath. However, he detailed how Mathers was unphased, disclosing, “Eminem came outside, 100%. Eminem was like, ‘I don’t give a fuck, man!’ ‘ That’s when I knew, ‘Damn, Eminem is a real n*gga. Them Detroit n*ggas are kinda crazy, bruh!”
