The ensemble cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery continues to expand with more major names. As with the prior installments, Daniel Craig will lead the cast as Detective Benoit Blanc, joined by an array of Hollywood superstars.
Per Deadline, it’s been revealed that actor Jeremy Renner has boarded the cast of the third Knives Out movie. It marks a return of sorts to the franchise, as Renner’s face appeared on a bottle of hot sauce in the original film, though it’s unclear if Renner will be playing himself or a new character. The addition of the Marvel Cinematic Universe actor follows the news that the cast will also bring in Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, and Cailee Spaeny. More big names are expected to be announced in the coming days as the cast continues to come together.
The news of Renner’s casting comes days ahead of the return of his acclaimed series Mayor of Kingstown. The third season of the Paramount+ series is set to debut on Sunday, June 2. Renner started filming the new season at the start of 2024, one year after surviving a devastating snowplowing accident that nearly took his life. Renner was eager to get back to work, though he later realized that it was harder on him than he expected once he started shooting. The actor has since stated that he’s accepted that he’ll never be the same person again.
Jeremy Renner’s Recovery Continues Forever, the Actor Says
“I had to accept it for the rest of my life. There’ll be nothing normal or as it was prior to the accident. By the way, I’m okay with that. It’s making my life better. I’m healthier because of it,” Renner said, via People. “I get to focus more on my health and well-being than I ever did before because I have to. Recovery will be until I’m out of this old hot mess of a body. It was a way for me to really accept that it is going to be forever.”
Wake Up Dead Man will mark the first feature film Renner has signed on for since his accident. However, he recently teased that he’d be up for returning to the Mission: Impossible franchise, so that’s become a possibility. Renner has also made it clear that he’s up for returning as Hawkeye in the MCU if Marvel Studios gives him the call.
