The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s The Fantastic Four is clearly moving forward with the recent cast additions, including the casting for the role of the film’s big villain, Galactus. On May 10, the filming start for the highly-anticipated reboot may have been revealed. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four is expected to filming at the end of July 2024.
The report about The Fantastic Four’s filming start date comes just a day after it was revealed that the movie will star Ralph Ineson (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and The Witch) as Galactus, the planet-devouring cosmic entity. The 54-year-old British actor previously showed up in the MCU as an unnamed Ravager in the background of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy film. He joins Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, as well as Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal / Silver Surfer, with John Malkovich and Paul Walter Hauser cast in currently-unknown roles.
In the same report, THR also reported that Alien star Sigourney Weaver is in talks to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, which will be directed by The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau. Pedro Pascal is also expected to lead the Star Wars movie, reprising his role as Din Djarin, The Mandalorian, the warrior who reluctantly (at first) cares for Grogu.
What is The Fantastic Four MCU movie about?
Set in the 1960s, the new The Fantastic Four movie will feature a team of four superheroes, who are known to gain superpowers after exposure to cosmic rays during a scientific mission in outer space. Plot details for the reboot haven’t been revealed yet. The film will be directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision), who previously teased how different the plot of The Fantastic Four will be.
“It’s different in so many ways,” Shakman explained in a 2023 interview with Collider. “I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you’ve seen before.”
