Just a few weeks ago Dr. Dre let slip that Eminem is hard at work on a new album. The as-yet-untitled full-length will reportedly arrive at some point later this year, though for the moment, no further details are known.
While the masses wait for new music from the rapper, one of Eminem’s most commercially successful releases is on the rise. Perhaps spurred in part by this good news, his fans–both casual and committed–are continuing to stream his biggest hits, and all that attention is helping push one title from the hip-hop star up the weekly rankings.
Eminem’s Curtain Call: The Hits rises on four different Billboard charts this week. The set is not new–very much not so–and he hasn’t added to its tracklist or dropped a new physical edition of the compilation, but it still manages to improve its standing from last frame.
Somewhat confusingly, Curtain Call: The Hits jumps up the Billboard 200, the weekly ranking of the most-consumed albums and EPs in the U.S. The rise is odd, as consumption of Eminem’s project is actually down, and yet it gains ground on the tally, likely due to a lack of competition.
Curtain Call: The Hits is up from No. 49 to No. 43 on the Billboard 200 this week. According to Luminate, the compilation moved another 17,189 units in the past tracking frame. That’s down just 1.1% from the period before.
Eminem’s singles collection wasn’t a powerful enough seller to reach the Top Album Sales chart again, as it only sold 636 copies last week. It does, however, improve on the Top Streaming Albums tally, which focuses specifically on streaming activity. On that list, it swells two spots to No. 35.
As one might expect, Eminem’s compilation performs best on Billboard’s hip-hop-centric charts. Curtain Call: The Hits swings upward from No. 17 to No. 14 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums ranking.
Over on the Top Rap Albums roster, it nearly cracks the top 10 once again. Curtain Call: The Hits stalls at No. 11 after landing just one rung lower last week.
