Avatar: The Last Airbender star Ian Ousley recently threw his hat in the ring to play Beast Boy in James Gunn’s DC Universe. While Ousley has the chops necessary to do justice to Beast Boy, Ryan Potter — who portrayed the young superhero in the live-action series Titans — has a different actor in mind to succeed him in the role.
Ousley revealed that playing Beast Boy would be a dream role for him during the Avatar: The Last Airbender panel at the 2024 Fan Expo Philadelphia. “I am really a huge fan of Titans, so I would love to be Beast Boy, that’s like a dream role for me,” he shared. “So, maybe one day?!” The potential casting was quickly shared online where it caught the eye of Potter, who responded with, “Iñaki Godoy or nothing.”
Who Is Iñaki Godoy?
Godoy is a Mexican actor who is best known for playing Monkey D. Luffy in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the manga series, One Piece, which released its first season in August 2023. Godoy’s performance as the enthusiastic pirate with rubber-like abilities imbued from eating the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit was among those praised by critics and fans, with many calling Monkey D. Luffy a breakout role for the actor. Godoy will reprise the role for the show’s forthcoming second season, which is scheduled to begin production this June.
Beast Boy, a.k.a. Garfield Logan, is one of the more recognizable members of the Teen Titans, often appearing in the comics and other media alongside Dick Grayson/Robin, Starfire, Raven, and Cyborg. Created by writer Arnold Drake and artist Bob Brown, Beast Boy’s powers include being able to shapeshift into any animal he chooses. Potter portrayed the character from 2018 to 2023 in all four seasons of Titans.
The Teen Titans Are Heading Back to the Big Screen
Following a tease from James Gunn, a live-action Teen Titans movie was reported to be in development in March 2024. Ana Nogueira attached to pen the screenplay. She previously scripted the upcoming DC Universe movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Teen Titans is expected to be part of the DCU, although there is a small possibility that the project could be a standalone movie released under the DC Elseworlds banner.
Either way, Teen Titans will be the second theatrically released movie featuring the team, after the 2018 animated film, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, which is set during the fifth season of the Teen Titans Go! cartoon.
